New Bridgit™ Software Makes Data Conferencing Simple and Cost Effective

Share real-time data without making attendees install software or pay extra for conferencing time

Calgary, AB --- January 13, 2003 --- SMART Technologies Inc. announces Bridgit data-conferencing software Version 1.0 for multiuser, reservationless data conferences. With Bridgit data-conferencing software, meeting attendees can connect easily to share screen information. Anyone can create a conference that all attendees can join by simply opening their client and selecting the conference by name. Alternately, those who do not already have the Bridgit client can be invited with an e-mail containing a URL that will download the client (less than one MB) and bring them directly to the conference. Bridgit software requires no special training.

Any number of conferences of any size can be held, limited only by the licensed number of concurrent users. The server is typically installed in a secure area outside the organization’s firewall so that both internal users and external parties may connect to it. Clients may be freely distributed and do not require installation. Passwords and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) ensure that conferences are secure and data is protected.

“Bridgit software makes data conferencing as easy as placing a phone call,” says Nancy Knowlton, president and co-CEO of SMART Technologies Inc. “With Bridgit software installed on an organization’s server, users can conference with anyone who has Internet access – even nontechnical users are connected within a few clicks.”

Features and Functions
Setting up a conference – Anyone can create a conference by launching the application and naming a new meeting and providing a password, if desired.

Sharing – Any participant can share his screen. To start, anyone may click the Share Desktop button. At any time, any other participant may click the Take over sharing button.

Mark-up tools – Any participant can use the pen, highlighter and remote pointer tools to effectively draw attention to key points on the shared desktop.

Options – Sharing and use of mark-up tools by other participants can be disabled by the person currently sharing.

Ad hoc connections – During the conference anyone may invite a new participant. The invitee receives an e-mail with a link that downloads the Bridgit client and automatically connects him to the conference.

Security – Conferences can be protected by passwords and all data is encrypted using SSL.

Firewalls and Proxies – Bridgit software works through but does not compromise firewalls, proxy servers and other security protection.

SMART Boardtm interactive whiteboard compatibility – Bridgit software is fully compatible with SMART Board interactive whiteboards and Sympodiumtm interactive lecterns, although neither is required to use the software.

Bridgit software does not include an audio-conferencing component.
